In April 2023, Australian digital artist Rhett Mankind gave ChatGPT-4 a challenge: create the most successful meme coin possible with a budget of $69. The AI designed everything — the name (TurboToadToken), the mascot (an orange toad in a space helmet called Quantum Leap), the tokenomics, the smart contract code, the whitepaper, and the marketing strategy. Mankind followed the instructions step by step, documented the journey on Twitter, and launched the token. The first attempt failed when a bot sniped all the tokens, but the community encouraged him to relaunch. TURBO hit $638 million market cap, was listed on Binance, and Beeple referenced it in his art. Mankind renounced contract ownership and made the mascot public domain. It was the first meme coin created entirely by AI, predating the Truth Terminal/Fartcoin era by over a year.
