Vitalik Buterin
Built the second-largest blockchain at 19. Became crypto's philosopher king.
Known For
Co-founder of Ethereum, the blockchain that powers most of crypto's infrastructure
Vitalik Buterin co-founded Ethereum at age 19 after first proposing it in a 2013 whitepaper. Ethereum introduced smart contracts to crypto, enabling DeFi, NFTs, DAOs, and essentially everything beyond simple Bitcoin transfers. Unlike most crypto founders, Vitalik remained a respected intellectual figure throughout every cycle — publishing research, donating billions to charity (including $1B+ to India's COVID relief), and maintaining a humble public persona despite being one of the wealthiest people in crypto. His relationship with meme culture is complicated — he's used Milady NFTs as his profile picture multiple times (sending prices soaring each time), while also expressing philosophical discomfort with crypto's more speculative aspects. He once described his feelings as a "grudging appreciation" for the fact that speculative tokens keep the crypto economy running. He remains the single most influential individual in the space.
